In my family the passion for dogs has always been strong. My father was a hunter and as such also a breeder of Italian bloodhounds both short and rough hair. Today, after many years, people still remembers him as the "old fox", this name is due to the way he choosed and trained his dogs.
I have always liked all kinds of dogs, appreciating in every race the diffrent morphological aspects. However, when I was a child I was especially conquered by our ancient white sheepdog.
Back in the 1960, in my region, the Marsica, there were many shepherds with their flocks passing in front of my house with their white guardians. I was fascinated to see these dogs working with the flocks, I think few people have had the fortune to see them at work, it is emazing.

Today children are quite busy with all kinds of technological equipment, when I was a child there was no such things, we had to enjoy ourself with the nature and the meeting this white guardians was for us children a thrilling experience.
I got my first white dog in 1980 from a shepherd working not away from my village. But when I brought him to my house my father immediately invited me to bring him back, revealing me his fear that, growing, the dog was able to recar damage to his bloodhounds. Therefore I gave the puppy, named Garibaldi, to a shepherd living close to my house. Even though he was not mine anymore I always followed him, with love, from the growth until he died fourteen years later.
It was then I decided that as soon as I had the possibility to get a piece of land of my own I would start breeding this fantastic race and with a lot of work and passion I realized my dream.

In 1992 I participated in my first official dog show and since then I have continued and I am dedicating myself completely to our race.
In 1995 I got the ENCI, The National Board of Italian Cynophiles, recognition for LUCUS ANGITIAE". I choosed this name because "Luco dei Marsi", the name of my village, comes for the Latin word Lucus and from the italic LUVKO, that means"sacred wood" that coveres the mountains around the urban sanctuary devoted Angitiae the goddess.
Luco dei Marsi, my village, primarily extends along the provincial road that coasts the Fucino river bed from south-west. The terrace structure of the village situated under the Mountain "La Ciocca" has been determined by the first reinassance settlement next to the lake. Signs from this first settlement can be seen in the eighteenth-century church, this group dominated the area until the disastrous earthquake of the 1915.

When I obtained the official ENCI acknowledgement for Lucus Angitiae, it was an important moment for me: my "Garibaldis" not only had a home, but also got a surname, that would distinguis them through our many successes. From that distant 1980, through the years I have got a lot of experience with our white dogs, through hard work I have recieved many awards, but these important recognitions are not mine, they are the dogs.

I have have meet a lot of people who loves dogs: from the humble shepherd to experienced dog show judges, all with a big passion for this Italian race and from them all I have learned two things: it discusses a lot around this race: but the type is one, while the multiplicity and the differences comes from the people, This could create dispersion of the type and of the race. ENCI and CPMA, the Italian club for the race, must rigorously watch over and control this pendulum. The second: to exhaust the reference for our dogs, as custodians of flocks would mean to lose storical trace of the race . Shepards and Sheep-farming is not as it was anymore, new demands and new human and social applications are pushing our dogs to new assignments as gratifications to man. It is important to acknowledge the great ability of our dogs to adapt to new situations, that is the secret of his survival close to man, and to recognize that our dog cannot be seen from far, close to the flocks anymore, almost as a being on the way of extinction, dragged by the decadence of the sheep-farming, neither reduced to the useless phenomenon by dog shows to the service of exhibitionisms.

Instead it is necessary to gather the essence of our sheepdog, always present in his DNA, his courage, this incorruptible balanced guardian. On this point, the dog shows are good tools to verify the character and the morphological aspects of our dogs. But on the other hand is is necessary to keep in mind the character of this dog when introducing him to a new life in our cities, in our homes, close to children and adults, without forcing him to change, but leaving his natural capacity to adapt without necessary trainings. Accepting his nature and dignity, favoring his adaptation to our society, that are changing continuously, in order to preserve and valorize his nature, to love him, this is the way to preserve and save our white guardian.
